Abstract |
Three children with epidermoid tumors in the spinal canal, all of whom had a lumbar puncture during the early childhood period, are reported. The first patient, a 9-year-old boy, presented with hip pain of unknown etiology. MRI of the lumbar spine revealed a 2.5cm epidermoid tumor at L5. The second child, a 11-year-old boy, presented with low back pain. MRI revealed a mass at L3-4. The third child, a 11-year-old boy, presented with low back and buttock pain. MRI revealed epidermoid tumor at L4. Complete exicion was performed in all of these patients. The relation between lumbar puncture and epidermoid tumor and the possible risk factors involved are discussed.
