Abstract |
In patients with pyogenic spondylitis, conservative treatment with intravenous antibiotics and external immobilization is the first choice. However, for those whom infections are resistant to antiobiotics and who have major bone destruction, neurologic impairment, recurrence of infection, and severe pain, surgical treatment is indicated. The authors describe a 56-year-old woman who presented with pyogenic spondylitis, which was treated with radical debridement followed by anterior column support using autogenous iliac graft combined with posterior instrumentation. |
