Abstract
Obective: To evaluate the efficacy of SolisTM(poly-ether-ether keton; PEEK) cage in the treatment of degenerative cervical diseases patients, the author has present clinical experiences of clinical outcomes and radiologic findings.
Mothods: Between 2003. 1 and 2005. 6, 54 patients of degenerative cervical diseases underwent anterior cervical discectomy and fusion with SolisTM cage. This consecutive seriese of patients was reviewed retrospectively. Clinical outcome were evaluated according to Odom's criteria and radiologic assessment was perfomed in the views of lordosis, subsidence and bony fusion. The average follow-up periods was 12 months(range, 6~33 months).
Results: One level fusion was accomplished in 31 patients, two levels in 17, three levels in 6. The clinical outcome was excellent or good was 50 cases(92%), fair in 3 cases and poor in 1 case. The mean of disc height and lordosis were significantly improved and preserved during follow-up periods. Preoperative kyphotic group(11 cases) showed lesser lordotic improvement than preoperative lordotic group(43 cases). Bony fusion was confirmed in 53 patients, but one patient who was belong to preoperative kyphotic group showed severe subsidence(3>mm) and nonunion. Anterior rim of cages were placed in cortical bone in thirty levels, 24 cages were placed in more inner site than 2 mm from anterior cortical margin. Subsidence between two groups were not significant.
Conclusion: The SolisTM cage appears to show restore disc height and lordosis. Clinical and radiologic outcome were comparable to other cage. The author think SolisTM cage may need a design of lordotic feature for the improvement of posto- perative lordosis and it can be a alternative in cervical interbody fusion for degenerative cervical diseases.
