| | Dear Spine Surgeons and Researchers, The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is a global health crisis that has had a deep impact on our everyday lives and our surgical practices. At present, roughly 10 million people have been infected and 470,000 people have died. This will be the most serious global health crisis in our generation. Not only do the infectiousness of COVID-19 and its patterns of transmission threaten our sense of safety, but the safety measures put in place for health care providers have limited the scope of daily practice in spine care. | Volume 17(2); Jun 2020 |
| The current issue of Neurospine highlights cutting-edge debates in COVID-19 pandemic in spine surgery. Dr. Dino Samartzis and AO spine members present an article "Personal Health of Spine Surgeons Can Impact Perceptions, Decision-Making and Healthcare Delivery During the COVID-19 Pandemic - A Worldwide Study". Nine editorial opinions from world leading experts in spine surgery and researches are representing the shifts in our daily pattern of surgical practices and academic life in ways that will become apparent very soon. Dr. Martin N. Stienen and Oliver N. Hausmann (Switzerland) summarize the history of spine surgery in Switzerland. In this article, spine surgeons throughout the world can come to realize the long history of the dedicated, enthusiastic efforts made by spine surgeons in Switzerland to provide better health care to patients with spinal disorders. Dr. Kee D. Kim (USA) has contributed an article entitled "Headache Relief Is Maintained 7 Years After Anterior Cervical Spine Surgery: Post Hoc Analysis From a Multicenter Randomized Clinical Trial and Cervicogenic Headache Hypothesis" In this article, Dr. Kim demonstrates that headache in herniated cervical disc disease patients could be relieved after anterior cervical spine surgery. The Neurospine editorial board would like to receive your feedback and comments about future directions. We pledge to engage in editorial work jointly with our readers.
