We are very pleased to inform you that Neurospine has an upcoming special issue focusing on “Adult Spinal Deformity”, to be assembled in collaboration with the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS, https://www.srs.org).
The prevalence of adult spinal deformity is increasing as the world shifts toward a more aged population, and it can have profound clinical impact, including pain, disability, and neurological compromise. Although our understanding of these deformities continues to expand and more studies are being conducted, many fundamental questions remain.
However, the complexity and heterogeneity of adult spinal deformity make it challenging to obtain sufficient surgical outcomes without broad collaborative efforts. Therefore, this special issue will share the experiences of world-leading spine deformity surgeons through original research articles, formal systematic literature reviews, technique videos, and case presentations. It is hoped that this special issue will not only help to summarize the current state of adult spinal deformity but also highlight remaining challenges in search of solutions.
This special issue will be a synergistic effort between the SRS and Neurospine in the field of Adult Spinal Deformity. The leading editors for this issue include Prof. Christopher P. Ames (USA), Prof. Jung-Kil Lee (Korea), Prof. Lawrence G. Lenke (USA), Prof. Christopher I. Shaffrey (USA), Prof. Justin S. Smith (USA), and Prof. Praveen V. Mummaneni (USA).
Prof. Junseok Bae (Korea), Prof. Seung-Jae Hyun (Korea), Prof. Jau-Ching Wu (Taiwan), Prof. Samuel K. Cho (USA), Prof. Wu Hao (China), Prof. ZeZhang Zhu (China), Prof. Mitsuru Yagi (Japan), and Prof. Kyung-Hyun Kim (Korea) will play major roles as the Executive Editors. The target date for publication of the “Adult Spinal Deformity” special issue is in June 2021.
SRS is an international society that was founded in 1966 with 37 members. It has gained recognition as one of the world's premier spine societies. The SRS has maintained a commitment to research and education in the field of spinal deformities. Strict membership criteria ensure that the individual Fellows support that commitment. Current membership includes over 1,300 of the world's leading spine surgeons, researchers, physician assistants and orthotists who are involved in research and treatment of spinal deformities.
The editorial team members for this special issue are comprised of expert, world-leading spine deformity surgeons and researchers, who will help to ensure that articles published in this special issue will provide balanced views and evidence-based knowledge to our readers.

Requested Article and Video Information

Submissions covering any aspect of assessment and care for Adult Spinal Deformity (Cervical, thoracic and lumbar) patients will be considered. Requested article and video types include:
-Original research, systematic review, and meta-analysis. Potential topics include (but not limited to):
• Novel operative/nonoperative techniques and treatment approaches
• Operative/nonoperative treatment outcomes
• Complications: management approaches and techniques to reduce occurrence
• Economic assessments of adult deformity treatment
• Preoperative planning and patient selection
• Applications of big data to improve patient counseling and outcomes
• Quality Benchmarking
• Methods of assessing outcome: past present and future
-Video articles: case-based or technique-based. Potential topics include (but not limited to):
• Novel surgical approaches/techniques
• Challenging/complex cases
• Applications of new technologies

-Case reports and technical notes:
• Reports of individual cervical deformity cases that are of particular novelty or interest
• Novel technical notes that those treating cervical deformity would find of particular interest (e.g. novel techniques to reduce the occurrence of distal junctional failure following long-segment posterior instrumented fusion for cervical deformity correction)
Articles are published upon acceptance, regardless of the publication date of the special issue.
